Google Pixel 3
As my wife and I have discovered this week, Google and uBreakiFix simply aren’t ready to service broken Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL devices. Until they are, you might want to be more careful than usual to prevent what happened to us from happening to you…
If you were to rank Android Easter Eggs over the years, Android Pie would probably fall pretty low on the list. Where Lollipop had a Flappy Bird clone, Pie has a colorful logo. However, if you’re on a Pixel 3, that’s actually replaced with a drawing app. Here’s a quick look at the Pixel 3 Easter Egg.
Wireless charging has been a welcome feature on Google’s Pixel 3 devices, but it didn’t come without some gripes. One of those was an incorrect indicator on the lockscreen which showed slower wireless chargers as “Charging Rapidly.” With the latest update, Google has fixed that Pixel 3 wireless charging behavior.
Compared to previous generations, the pre-order gift that came with the Pixel 3 was only $50 in Google Store credit and a six month trial of YouTube Music Premium for new subscribers. However, Google is now attempting to remedy the somewhat lackluster incentive with a few dollars of free Play Store credit.
The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL introduced a bevy of new features built upon functionality first announced on the Pixel 2. Many — like the Camera app — are coming to last year’s devices, including the very useful history for Now Playing.
In addition to temporary Hardware Stores in major cities for the holiday season, Made by Google relies on pop-up experiences to advertise its latest product. Last year’s were focused on the Google Home Mini, but this fall Google is taking the Pixel 3 to the streets with the “Sights of Sound.”
Earlier this week, Apple made a move that many expected wouldn’t happen — the iPad adopted USB-C. That aligns it with much of the industry, including most Android makers, but at the same time, the tablet also dropped its 3.5mm headphone jack. That led to an Apple USB-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter, and it’s currently the best one you can get for an Android device.
Made by Google just announced its 2018 lineup and only just began sales of those products recently. While the new hardware is not yet reflected in the Q3 earnings that Google reported today, analysts asked about the progress in consumer hardware, with Sundar Pichai summarizing that “everything is progressing well.”
Ahh, the Google Pixel 3 & XL. Despite being our favorite Android phones on the market, these two phones are not perfect by any means. Unfortunately, some woeful users have had numerous software issues and/or hardware defects. We want to know: are you among them?
Following last week’s launch of the Pixel 3, Google is ramping up advertising for its flagship phones. From celebrities to the World Series, the latest involves a Pixel 3 ad featuring a song from Fred Rogers that focuses on Google Lens.
The camera on Google’s Pixel 3 is probably the best you can get on a phone today, but it admittedly struggles in some ways when it comes to video. Not helping matters is the recent discovery that Pixel 3 audio recording is a bit lacking. In somewhat good news however, Google’s “tuning” is probably an easy fix for a future update.
Wireless charging is finally back on Google’s latest crop of smartphones, and it’s certainly a welcome return. Google even supports Pixel 3 fast wireless charging at 10W. However, that apparently doesn’t work with third-party chargers as has recently been discovered.
User feedback is important to Google, as highlighted by the various shortcuts to send comments and bug reports in every application and service on Android. This extends to the Made by Google hardware lineup, and comes as more and more people receive the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. Unfortunately for Google, a continual rate of customers are encountering personal issues and various quirks…
One of the most jaw-dropping features Google showed off at its 10/9 event was that of “Night Sight.” The Pixel 3 camera feature made huge promises for improving low-light photography, but it also wasn’t set to roll out for a while after the phone shipped. Now, thanks to a modded app, we’ve been able to take Night Sight for a spin, and the results are pretty impressive.
The camera is absolutely one of the biggest reasons for anyone to buy a Google Pixel device — regardless of generation. Unfortunately, these devices have been plagued with a strange bug which causes photos not to save. Most prominently with the Pixel 3 as of late. Now, however, Google is promising a fix for all Pixel owners.
For the past year or so, YouTuber JerryRigEverything has been taking our favorite glass-backed smartphones and ripping them open to give them a makeover with a glass back. Now, he’s delivered a transparent Pixel 3.
Alongside the retail launch of the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL last week, Google opened a pair of ‘Google Hardware Store’ pop-up shops in New York and Chicago. They’re not all too dissimilar from Google pop-ups of the past — you can browse through all the latest additions to the Made by Google lineup and see how they work in person, buy some products, and participate in interactive workshops.
Here’s a quick look inside the New York store.
With its Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, Google has crafted some pretty fantastic smartphones in terms of the experience they offer. However, they’re still not quite perfect. Over the past few days as more consumers have gotten their hands on the new devices, a nasty issue has cropped up. It seems there’s a memory management issue on our hands.
Android Pie introduced a new security feature called Android Protected Confirmation for performing critical transactions, like banking and controlling medical devices. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are the first to support the new functionality, with Google continuing to detail the security features on their latest phone this week.
For quite some time now, most Android phones have had the option to be unlocked via your voice and an “OK Google” or “Hey Google” command. Using “Voice Match,” Google has offered up this functionality on its past two Pixel phones, but now its latest doesn’t support it. Oddly, Pixel 3 doesn’t support this feature.
For the better part of the last decade, Verizon’s smartphones haven’t been SIM-locked. That means that a Verizon phone can work on basically any other network even if you bought it directly from the carrier. Now, though, the carrier is changing those rules, and that means that the Verizon Pixel 3 is locked down to the Big Red.
Announced last week, the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL officially launched today. With many buyers starting to receive the latest flagship devices, Google has just posted the Android 9 Pie factory images.
It should come as no surprise that the Pixel 3’s big feature is its camera, and it’s quite impressive too. One of the handy new features Google has included allows users to export different frames of a shot, but Pixel 3 Top Shot actually saves these other shots in a dramatically lower resolution.
It’s officially Pixel day. After announcing the phones last week and reviews dropping earlier this week, you can officially go out and buy Google’s new phones today. Here’s where to buy Google Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL.
