Google this afternoon officially announced that its next hardware event is on October 9th in New York City. The widely leaked Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are expected, while there are rumors of new Pixelbooks and other Made by Google products.
The Google Pixel 3 XL was spotted in the wild last week and promptly photographed. Today, another pair of images better showcasing the next Made by Google device have emerged. Captured at a better angle, these flatter photos again detail the notch, as well as the phone’s backside.
Back in May, the FCC revealed that Google was working on an updated Chromecast that would bear similarities with the current 2nd-generation model. The new device was revealed to add Bluetooth, while an amended regulatory filing today details Wi-Fi improvements.
The first Assistant Smart Displays launched last month and others announced at CES are expected to debut throughout the fall. Meanwhile, a Made by Google device has been long rumored, with a new report today pegging a launch before the holiday season.
Back in February, Google announced that Nest would return after a stint as an independent Alphabet company. The smart home maker joined the hardware division to drive closer integration, with Google today revealing that Nest will be a part of the home and living room team. Rishi Chandra will still lead that group at the expense of Nest CEO Marwan Fawaz.
As Google doubles downs on consumer hardware with the Pixel and Home, in-house chip development becomes increasingly important in order to own the entire stack and create an optimized experience. Those efforts might’ve taken a blow recently as Facebook poached an important Googler working on chips.
